Your guide to the perfect Mother’s Day

Your guide to the perfect Mother’s Day

At Capital, we believe that caring for and making memories with the ones you love is the most important aspect of life, so what better day to do this than Mothering Sunday (31st March).

If you’re looking for inspiration on any budget, then look no further, we’ve put together some ideas of how you can spend time with the ones you love.

For the outdoorsy Mum…

Visit Alfriston, East Sussex

Escape with the family to the scenic village of Alfriston located in the beautiful Cuckmere River valley and with the South Downs Way going through it. Sightsee around the fourteenth-century thatch and timber Clergy House, the historic St Andrew’s church, and the village green (perfect for a picnic if it’s a nice day). Alfriston is full of hidden delights such as the charming café, Badgers @ The Old Village Bakery (also known as Badgers Tea House), where you can enjoy a home-made cream tea, or the Tudor-style Inn, the Star where you can feast on a hearty Sunday roast with a glass of red or a pint of local beer.

Kew Gardens

Take a stroll in the idyllic 250-year-old Royal Botanic Gardens, just a stone’s throw away from London in Kew. Explore the old Victorian Palm House and the glasshouses with different climates designed to nurture everything from the world’s largest water lilies to delicate Alpine flowers to tropical blooms.

Even more fascinating views can be discovered on The Tree Top Walkway where you can see a birds-eye view of the park’s centuries old trees.

Exploring the great outdoors is hungry work so afterwards you could treat your mother to one of the quick-service style eateries inside Kew Gardens. Or if you are feeling more extravagant pop over to the nearby Michelin star restaurant, The Glasshouse, which serves a sophisticated modern European cuisine.

But before you leave, don’t forget to check the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art.

If this sound like your mother’s scene, adult tickets can be purchased online or at the gate for around £16.50 or family of four tickets for around £40.00. Tickets are cheaper when brought online.

For the traditional Mum…

A tradition family dinner

If your mum loves nothing more than having the whole family around her and indulging in some hearty home cooked food, then why not celebrate with a family dinner at home?

The modern Mother’s Day is not just about celebrating your mother. With growing complexity of families and grandparents becoming ever more important in children’s life than in any other generation, Mother’s Day is now about appreciating all the important females in your life such as grandmothers, step-mothers, aunties and sisters, so if you have a lot of people to celebrate Mother’s Day with this may be your perfect option.

Check out these Mother’s Day recipes from Delicious Magazine.

For the artistic Mum…

Take a class with Paintbox Studios

Get creative and take mum to an art class. There will be many different art classes around your local area like the Paintbox Studios in Chelsea.
