January welcome

January welcome

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2017. The year ahead promises to be anything but dull as we learn more about what Brexit is going to look like, as well as getting used to the new Trump administration in the White House.

At the beginning of the year, you may, like many of us, have considered making one or two new year’s resolutions such as getting fit and shedding a few pounds. I was pleased when one of London’s leading personal fitness trainers, Andrew Meyer agreed to write a short article for us on the best way to approach the challenge. Andrew shares many of Capital’s core values as applied to the fitness industry and he is passionate about challenging the get thin quick/fad diets and 6-week programmes that just don’t work. This approach has similarities to our own views on get-rich-quick investing. Well worth a read.

As well as keeping physically fit, we are advocates of keeping financially fit and so were interested when the UK’s main financial regulatory body, the Financial Conduct Authority FCA) issued a paper in November on the subject of fees and charges applied to clients’ investments by many of the leading financial institutions. The paper runs to over 200 pages and raised a lot of questions as to the value provided by much of the market. At Capital, we are well aware of the issues around fund manager costs and work tirelessly to ensure all our clients enjoy some of the lowest fees available. Our Investment Director Graham McCulley makes some interesting points and you may wish to share the article with friends or colleagues who may not be enjoying the same value-focused approach to investment costs as you are.

I would like to introduce our latest recruit to the team, Chelsey, who joins as our first ever Marketing Executive. As part of Capital’s ambition is to evolve and grow carefully over time, we felt that now was the right time to bring onboard a bright young, marketer to assist with that process. Chelsey has already brought her flair and innovation to the work we do. Do stop by to say hello next time you visit us.

Last, but certainly not least, wishing you all the best for a great start to 2017.

Best Wishes,

Alan Smith
